One Leaf

One leaf is firey red

As I gather from the vine

I’m stepping where you’ve tread

Visions flashing through my mind.

I want to shout to you”Look-

They’re so beautiful and full!”

But Winemaker, from me you took

My heart, but never stole.

The varied colors of the leaves

Poignantly declare the calendar

While one red aching heart cleaves

To a heavenly encounter.

Your laughter and countenance surround us

I watch your children follow your lead

Joyfully they gather in the harvest

While

One leaf

as my heart

does bleed.
