The Mystery of Autumn

The air is cold, as the leaves fly

The weeping of the great oaks

Falling, blanketing the woods

With sorrow

Power is paused

Attempting to outsmart ferocious fires

Leaving us in darkness

Seed pods stand intricate in design

Mystery

always reaching

Heavenward

Queen Anne's lace closes as a sun umbrella

Finishing its job for the season

Accomplished

Always reminding me of my most precious treasure

Our oneness

The knowing in the depth of our hearts

Dedication and desire

Communication

Woven together and blooming

An equation

Of multiplication

When a single blossom

Brings forth abundant seeds

As the leaves fall

And the last rose

Blooms

Undeniably fragrant

In the midst of Autumn

I gathered up Autumn’s gifts this afternoon, and one fragrant rose. Power has been shut off for miles in an attempt to minimize potential fires.

The Queen Anne’s lace reminds me of a time I was about to gather a giant bouquet, but failed to tell him. I ran out, crying, as he was unknowingly weedeating the bouquet I had been dreaming of. We’d gotten too busy, our communication had suffered and wildflowers were the casualties that moved us to be more purposeful in connecting. After disappointment and miscommunication, we always would step back and assess what was happening and then determine to do better, to communicate better, to listen better, to dream together. It wasn’t always easy, it required patience, humility, perseverance and commitment, but it was worth it. We knew we had each other’s hearts.

As I collected various seed pods, I wondered at the scripture, “ Jesus replied, ‘ “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who cares not for his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.’ “ John 12:23-26

Humility.

Selflessness.

An accurate description.

Having an eternal focus.

Understanding the truth and value

Of following Christ.

And I am assured Our Heavenly Father

Is honoring my precious, beloved husband and friend.
